Rabbits

#1 – Rabbits are Sustainable, where as meat chickens are not. Rabbits can be bred and their offspring can be bred, increasing your breeding stock and filling your freezer.

#2 – Tons of Meat. Rabbits can be bred every 6 weeks and up to 7 times per year. Gestation is about 4 weeks (28-31 days). They can be bred as quickly as 2-weeks after giving birth and still care for their young. A productive doe (female) can average 10 babies per litter. Each can grow to 5-pounds in 8-10 weeks, each yielding 3-pound processed weight.  10 x 3 x 7 = 210 lbs/year!

#3 – Prepared Like Chicken. Use rabbit in any chicken dish.  More tender than chicken and packs a serious amount of protein.

#4 – Most Efficient Livestock to Grow. The Feed Conversion Ratio (FCR).  FCR is a ratio of how many pounds of feed it takes to make a pound of the animal you’re growing. The lower the number, the better. Rabbit beats all other common livestock.

#5 – Rabbits are vegetarians. They can live happily on hay and garden trimmings.  Commercial feed pellets speed up the weight gaining process, but costs more.

#6 – Rabbits can be grown in small spaces. There is no other livestock that takes up less space and produces so much, so even if having livestock is frowned upon where you live, keep rabbits out of sight and no one will know.

#7 – Rabbit Manure Is Worth It's Weight In Gold. Most animal manure has to be aged for months before you can add it to your garden, rabbit manure can be used right away. Those small hard dry pellets can go immediately in your garden
